If you searched your website/blog on Google, chances are you will find it among the first search results on the first page. But when you search a topic you tackled in a blog post, your blog is nowhere to be found among the first 10 pages.
Why so? When you searched your blog, you zeroed down to a specific name but when you searched your topic, you probably used a phrase that is covered by thousands of websites in their articles and pages. So what Google did is, it presented the most relevant search results from websites that have made a name on Google after gathering millions of viewers and investing a lot on Google ads.
But you are a new website under a budget with just some few articles on your blog, how will you compete with this giants? Don’t worry, i will show you how.
How long keywords work
First, Google is not complicated as it seems. It does not need 20 years of studying like rocket science. All Google wants is to make sure that the right content reaches the right viewers and to do that, it will use a lot of filters and screening to make sure it retrieves the most relevant content
The crawler is a program, it doesn’t know how hard you worked on your article until it gets a reason to do so as it is conditioned. One of that reasons could be, you are the only one who tackled that topic. That doesn’t mean you will be covering topics so unique to be searched but your topics will be more specific.
For example, this topics are the same but very different when it comes to SEO
1. How to create a blog
2. How to create a blog with WordPress.com using the free plan
You see, both writers could be referring to the same thing, How to create a blog with WordPress, but the second writer is more specific and can capture more readers. The smaller the keyword, the higher the competitors. For example, Many websites have covered “how to create a blog” but few have covered “how to create a blog with WordPress” and even fewer have covered “how to create a blog with WordPress for free.”
Why use long keywords.
When you use long keywords, you are able to cover many topics in one. A topic like ” How to create a blog with wordpress.com for free” covers 3 topics
- How to create a blog.
- How to create a blog with WordPress.
- How to create a blog for free.
So you can try to incorporate long keywords in your next post. It is also good if you replace your previous topics with longer or specific ones.
There isn’t much about long keywords but you have to make sure your website pages and blog posts are indexed by Google. Its easy especially if you are using WordPress. All you need is a plugin like Yoast or google xml sitemaps. I recommend xml sitemaps for site indexing. As for choosing the right keywords, Yoast is the best.
