It had never crossed my mind that books can be turned into games until I played Choices. It is an android app you can download on playstore. Instead of reading books only to finally cry over a bad ending, choices gives you a chance to play as a character in a book. Here you are in control of the choices you make and for that case the outcome

Pixelberry, the company behind choices, has been an inspiration to me in many ways. Starting from their well designed and developed game to their support and their appealing website. In a word, these guys have some taste.

Just as its name suggests, the game is all about making choices. First, you select a book among their many series of books. After the intro, you choose a name. Sometimes they will give you a chance to select a gender and even the looks of your friends. You can also select and change your outfits anytime in the closet represented by a hanger at the bottom of your screen.

As you play their book games, you will find yourself in situations where you have to make hard choices. That includes simple things like words you use, clothes you wear and places you go. Choices you make will affect your relationship with those around you and sometimes cost you diamonds.

Choices interface

The first time you open choices, you are met by a blue background as the game loads. Its like you are about to watch a play in a theater. In the home page you get a featured image with the latest and most trending book. Below it, you find a slider with a list of recommended books. Under that you find books that you have played or may want to play.

On the footer, there is a menu with five sections. The first one with a star icon, is the featured section. This is acts as the home section i just described. Its all about books you can read, books you may want to continue reading if any, and the latest releases.

The second section is “browse”. This one is represented with a books icon. Here you can browse available books by series or genre. There are many books in choices from different genres i.e horror, suspenseful mysteries, romance, dramatic comedy and others. Each book has several chapters. Some books are a series, thus book 1, 2 and 3 of the same book. To play the following chapter, you have to complete the previous one.

The third section is the profile with a user icon. Here you will find your account details and books you have played. In this section you can connect your Facebook account with choices to save your progress and continue with games you have played on other devices.

In the fourth section, you will find the settings. Here you can get support incase of any problem. You can also do some account settings. In the last section which is rewards, you can collect free diamonds. This diamonds are used to do in game purchases. You can use them to buy designer outfits and special moments with your friends.

Graphics and animations

Choices games have appealing graphics and real like animations. As the game is mostly about characters in books with their day to day lives, choices provides you with best of graphics and animations related to that. This are fancy chat boxes, facial expressions, stunning outfits, colorful themes and background to resemble real houses and places.

Characters are well groomed dressed in fancy clads. The outfits are designed to resemble the character’s personality, image and social class. Characters can easily change outfits to dress to the occasion. Some clothes have to be bought with several diamonds.

User experience

The user experience is remarkable in every book you play. To give you a more engaging experience, choices provides you with soundtracks for different game situations. This enables you to feel every moment you are in as you play different characters in different books.

In game purchases and rewarding

As you play the game, you get to earn rewards after every chapter you complete. You can also earn rewards by viewing ads on choices. Rewards come in form of diamonds. With this diamonds, you can purchase anything on choices. If you run out of diamonds, you will have to purchase items using real cash. That is, real dollars!

Choices also comes with something called a key or keys. The keys are required when you want to play many chapters of the same book nonstop. There are no limits to how many books you can play but there are limits to how many chapter you can play per time. To purchase a key, you will need $2. Or you can just wait for about 2 hours to get the key to unlock more chapters

Their support is good but they will encourage you to follow through so you can get the best of their assistance. In some cases you will have to be patient.
