How I surf the internet for free everyday

First, I would like to say that this post is meant for safaricom and Airtel users. For those who are new to this terms, they are internet service providers and mobile networks in Kenya. The most popular ones too. They also operate in other countries as Vodafone and Celtel but their offers in those counties could be different from those in Kenya. Another thing is, they offer personalized promotions. So, what I get might be different from someone else depending on how I use safaricom or Airtel services and also how much I spend on each service. Be it Mpesa, Internet, calls, sms, apps and so on.

I still hold the believe that internet should and will be free one day. Totally free. It might seem like a small dream but not to someone who Spends half of their day in the Internet. These are people who run ecomerce sites, do online jobs and maintain large sites like Wikipedia. And to be honest my dream is already halfway achieved. It’s just some few years back when ksh100 could not give you just 2hrs of Internet. But today the same can buy you several Gbs valid for 24hrs or more.

So how am I able to do it?

1. With safaricom

I know this network sounds expensive to some people. It’s the reason why people started lining up and crowding around Airtel sales agents to buy airtel lines when airtel started releasing their interesting adverts. You remember the ones with red and green apples and the waiters with green and maroon half coats. It’s hard to forget the one where guys are watching football on their mobile phones eagerly waiting for the penalty to be kicked. Then the video hangs just before the goal kick with the goalkeeper statued in the air. Kenyans got the message and quite a number moved to airtel.

As much as I love airtel’s affordable bundles and their Internet speed, they can’t compare to safaricom’s convenience. It’s only in safaricom where you can purchase data with just a bob.(ksh1), withdraw and send money anywhere anytime. Look on your right you might spot an Mpesa agent. Safaricom is everywhere!! It is also the only network you can call and surf with zero airtime. It is also the only network that provides so many quick unsecured loan options. If not Fuliza it’s Mshwari or KCB Mpesa. Not to mention okoa jahazi which allows you to borrow airtime and bundles upto 4 time prior to paying the previous debts. It’s such a reliable network.

This is how I browse for free;

a) With opera mini browser

When you download the opera mini browser, you are able to use free 50mbs for browsing daily. The only thing you can’t use this data bundles is for streaming and downloads but all the rest is allowed. Chat on facebook, google search, online shopping, and other web related activities. The offer is also available for Airtel users. The data bundles can only be used when you browse using opera mini. You don’t have to purchase them or do anything. They are renewed automatically everyday at 12 midnight.

b) On safaricom zerod website

Safaricom launched a website where you can search for answers and get news updates without any data. All you need is to switch on your data connection in your device. Safaricom zerod site also provides you with rewards of 7mb and 7sms for every video ad you view in their site. One can get up to 5 ads in a day. That’s 45mbs and sms just like that.

c) Using safaricom free offers

Safaricom has many free offers. Below are several;

  • 200mbs when you check your data statement
  • 500mbs when you download the MySafaricom app
  • 50mbs when you chat with safaricom Zuri
  • 500mbs when you download Mpesa app and another 500mbs when you update it.
  • 1gb free as birthday gift on your birthday.
  • 500mbs everyday when you purchase 300mbs at ksh60 by dialing *544# and selecting option 0.
2. With airtel

Airtel bundles are quite affordable but they have a limited number of offers. They give you free Internet when you browse through opera mini and 100mb when you download the Airtel app. The only other free offers you can get on airtel is Airtel zawadi via *100# which is more like safaricom’s bongs points.
That is how you can also browse the Internet for free. Offers keep changing. So keep yourself updated to enjoy most of them. Best of luck.
