In kenya, job vacancies are being advertised everyday but the criteria being used for application and recruitment is quite hard. For example, I don’t know why my cv and certificates are needed to apply for a clean up job. It also doesn’t make sense to ask for a 2yrs experience. What about a fresh graduate or someone who has been cleaning his entire life but has no papers to prove it? Its easy to tell these requirement are for screening purposes.
The kind of jobs I will mention will not demand too much credentials. They are real jobs by the way. Some of which you can start anytime from now.
1. Jumia sales consultant
Maybe you are yet to place an order on jumia but you could have already heard of it. Jumia is an online store where one can buy products and have then delivered to their address, office or home.
Being a store selling different products online, jumia aims to reach more customers. To achieve this, they have been creating programs like Jumia partners, jumia prime and Jforce. They have also created platforms like jumia deals which is a marketplace like jiji.
Jumia sales consultants are part of the jforce program. Under this program you will find other stake holders i.e couriors like G4S and others whose main task is to ensure jumia orders are being fulfilled jyst as the name Jforce suggests.
As a jumia sales consultant, your job is to place orders on behalf of others. This means you will be ordering items from jumia like you would order your own items. The people you order for can be friends, relatives or anyone else but jumia encourages they be people close to where you reside.
How to become a jumia sales consultant
To get started, you need to have a jumia clients account. To create one, you can visit the signup page here. After that you need to visit the Jforce page and set up the jumia sales consultant profile. All the above is a simple and quick process which should not take you more than 30 minutes.
Once you have setup the above, all you need is to buy any item from jumia through your sales consulrant portal. The item will be delivered to the adress ypu provide during the order process or the one in ypur client’s account.
Two important points to note is jumia recognises you as the one placing the order not your client. Second, you are paid by jumia not the person you order for. But its your client who pays for the products he/she purchases through you
How much do I get paid?
How much you get paid depends on the product and the region where it being delivered. How much ypu earn depends on how many items you buy. Jumia will pay you around 2-4% for each product bought through you. If its a phone that costs 10,000. 2% of this is 200. Assuming you will be ordering a minum of 5 such items everyday, that is ksh 1000 everyday. If you sell products with a higher commission rate, like 4%, that would be ksh 2000 everyday
2. Uber driver
As we all know, the taxi industry is growing quite fast. This growth has contributed to the creation of taxi platforms like uber, safiri digital and fika cabs. A point to note is uber and most taxi platforms are not taxi owners. They could have several cars but their main area of business is to connect taxi drivers with travelers/passengers.
To become an uber driver, one doesn’t need to own a car, though its good if you have one. What you really need is to be a good driver with a driving licence. The rest will be provided. If you dont have a car for example they will loan you one. This means you will be gradually paying for the car as you use it to do business.
