We create blogs for many reasons but for anyone who intends to capture readers, they have to be guided by one principle, that they are writing for others and not themselves.
As a blogger, you can create a post with great passion and burn the midnight oil with hope to make at least some dollars out of it. Unfortunately readers don’t know that, to some extent, they don’t even care.
So, before you publish a post, ask yourself whether you would want to read what you wrote if it was written by someone else. Would you read it with the same passion you had when you were writing it?
If you were to ask me, I would tell you that reading is one of the most boring things, that does not include novels by the way, but when writing is done well reading can be one of the most interesting things.Take sleeping for example, whats interesting about it? Unless one is dreaming, the big part of it they are unconscious, total blackout! Yet we find it hard to leave our beds in the morning for work. Why? Because our brains have a way of creating the mood so that all we want is to sleep.
When it comes to writing, you have to create the desire in readers to read. To do that, you need to eliminate anything in your article that will make it boring. Things like cliches, ads, negative words, biasness, hard terminologies and other turn offs.
Here there are a few tips writers should try.
1. Create a Good Vibe
A good vibe is that good atmosphere one creates or gets from certain people or moments. Good moments come with good vibes. An example of a good vibe is that cozy and warm feeling you get when you are sited on a beach somewhere in the morning or that one you get when someone compliments you.
To captivate your readers, start by creating that good mood through your writing. First create a clear picture of what you are talking about, then use the right words to express it, to the point where the reader can experience it as if its really happening. Make them feel the moment. And don’t forget to use positive words, the intention is not just to create a Vibe but a good one too.
Something like;
” Have you ever gone for a game drive early in the morning? I went for one today , the cool atmosphere, birds chirping and sun rising was so heart warming! ”
2. Talk about yourself or something relative
Humans are social beings. The more natural and real your content sounds the more they are able to relate with it. If you are reviewing something give your own opinion about it. Share your experience with the readers. Being too formal can make your writing boring.
3. Be a little bit controversial
Sometimes controversy is not as fictional as it sounds, its part of our lives. Its due to the fact that things are not always the way they seem to be, not to mention that one man’s meat is another mans poison.
Why we need to use controversy is because, with time readers get tired of reading what they already know. Its anticipated for any blog title to read , ” How to lose weight” unlike ” why you dont need fitness in your life” but the second one will draw more atention.
4. Add more suspense
Some blogs will tell you not to mention the important stuff anywhere in the first paragrapghs, its one way to create suspense but not the best. What if a reader loses interest amid those first few paragraphs? The best way is to make it flow. Its just like rock music (not much of a fun by the way) It starts with soft tones but gets harder as the song continues.
Suspense is not just about making a reader want to read the last line of an article or story. Its much about making a reader want to read every line of it. It’s not a good feeling as a writer to realise that a reader skipped other paragraphs to get to the bottom line of your blog post.
Example of suspensful text;
” I had to go to the office that day, I had no choice…… ”
5. Stick to the topic
Remember its the title that brought your readers to your article. Don’t let them find something different. Also, it should be interesting as the title suggests.
